All of us are stuck between bills, family, work
and ambitions which force us towards becoming an anxious mess. Irrespective of
when and how we drowned into anxiety, there is still hope for us. Here are some
ways we can battle and overcome the very thought of tension and self-disgust
without popping pills every few hours.
Shout it out
There are few things better than a trusted
friend in a battle with anxiety. One of them is screaming at the top of your
lungs. Now, you might look at it as a gross idea, but in reality, letting your
voice out helps in the release of build-up frustrations and anxiety.
We were always taught to hold our emotions, but
we must note that doing this is a major reason why people feel insecure about
what they feel. Do not try to overlook anxiety. Instead, accept it as a fact
and do whatever you can to change the status quo.
Leave the couch
Exercise has been known to instil
self-confidence and will power in people who feel lazy and bored. Since times
immemorial, exercise and sports have been used to relieve stress and anxiety
Physical activities work as a boost for
serotonin and endorphins, which in turn make you feel better and emotionally
stronger. It not only changes your outlook towards life but also lets you
realize the strength of your character.
To start with, you can aim for 30 minutes of
physical activity every day. You do not have to indulge in strenuous workouts
as moving your body while dancing on your favourite song is more than
enough. Yoga has shown great results,
especially in cases of acute nervousness and anxiety. So, try it out today and
witness the change.
Forget about caffeine
For most of us, caffeine is our go-to drug
choice, but it has been scientifically proven to worsen anxiety. Although
caffeine is great in giving us a boost in energy levels yet in pressure
situations, the excess energy can lead to an anxiety attack. We are not advising you to break up with caffeine,
yet moderation completely is the key to keep things under control.
Make sure that you are not gulping more than
two normal sized cups a day. Initially, you will feel the urge of drinking more
caffeine, but with time, your mind and nerves will calm down for the better.
Learn to say no
You might already be dealing with a lot of
personal troubles during anxiety. In such a situation, listening to your
friends’ troubles with life could be more damaging. This is especially true if
your friends like to whine about their situation more than what is reasonably
expected. It is one thing to share, and another to whine. If your friends need
a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on in times of need, be with them. If they
just call you to kill time by narrating all the troubles in their life, tell
them you are busy.
Anxiety is complex and often demands
medication. However, with a few lifestyle changes, your symptoms can become
more manageable, and you will depend less on pills.
